Womans Wound - Sacred Self Neglect (Failing to Prioritise Health and Well-Being)

business block sacred self neglect Jan 09, 2025

Description:

Sacred Self Neglect occurs when you neglect your own physical, mental, and emotional needs, often in favour of others or responsibilities. This block leads to burnout, exhaustion, and a sense of being unworthy of care, leaving you depleted and disconnected from your body’s wisdom.

How to Identify the Block:

  • You consistently prioritise work or others over your own well-being.
  • You struggle to relax, feeling guilty when you take breaks or focus on self-care.
  • You feel physically drained, mentally foggy, or emotionally overwhelmed.

Mode of Survival:

  • Fight: You fight the idea of self-care, believing that taking care of yourself is selfish or indulgent. You might push through exhaustion, overworking, or refusing to slow down.
  • Flight: You avoid self-care and health-related activities, opting for distractions like work, social media, or other avoidant behaviors.
  • Freeze: You might freeze when trying to make a change to your health habits, feeling overwhelmed by the thought of adding new routines or making self-care a priority.
  • Fawn: You may over-please others by constantly prioritizing their needs over your own, neglecting your own health and well-being to take care of everyone else.

Where It Might Have Come From:

  • Family patterns that glorified self-sacrifice or hard work over self-care.
  • Childhood conditioning where taking care of others was valued more than taking care of oneself.
  • Ancestral patterns of overwork, lack of emotional nourishment, or prioritizing duty over personal needs.

How to Clear It:

  • Schedule non-negotiable self-care routines into your calendar, even if they’re just for a few minutes a day.
  • Begin setting boundaries in your personal and professional life to protect your energy.
  • Engage in mindful practices like yoga, meditation, or journaling to reconnect with your body and its needs.

Journal Prompt:

  • Reflect on a time when you felt truly nourished and taken care of. What were you doing? How did your body feel?
  • What beliefs about self-care or rest did you grow up with? Do you feel like those beliefs still serve you today?
  • What would it look like if you prioritized your health and well-being? Write a list of simple actions you can take each day to care for yourself.

Whenever you feel stuck or notice recurring struggles, revisit the questionnaire to identify which wound might be holding you back. For lasting results, commit to practicing the clearing techniques consistently for 30 days; this will help you create a strong foundation and build a habit that supports ongoing growth and transformation.
